此刻的...

Time flies.
...

我总觉得时间不够用, 却又不知道我的时间去了哪里,
日子一天天过, 分秒被蹉跎着,
而我, 一直是不好也不坏,
...
我不好,
因为,心中有好多计划
总是懊恼着它该从何做起;
明知道不是自己能力范围的事,
也不知道冲着哪来的热情, 就这样顺着了;
有些事儿很被动, 总是依赖着我;
有些事很想开始, 却搁着了;
我无奈了;

Yap Beng's Bak Kut Teh 叶铭(干)肉骨茶 at Seri Kembangan, Selangor

This time I was going for the oppa Chinese style... LOL~
It has been my favorite food ever since I know how to eat (exactly).
It has been one of the renowned traditional Chinese cuisine (checked)
It has been a custom breakfast dish for Klang's locals (for really)

YES! IT's nothing but YAP BENG's BAK KUT TEH 叶铭(干)肉骨茶 all the way~
Frankly, I am a northerner, I eat bak kut teh as my lunch as my dinner, but it is never ever be my breakfast. I once ate before at Klang with my friends and I was not really get used to it. I have no idea how could the Klang's neighborhood have such a meaty pork chop as breakfast early in the morning. I mean wouldn't it be too heavy as a breakfast?
Optionally by this time, I could have it as an ideal brunch ... as the bak kut teh feast fill my empty stomach and most importantly it "consumes" me. HAH!

Together six person, we ordered six dishes for savoring. Here's our list of order:-

1. Chilies Shrimp Stir-fry 辣椒炒虾

It looks simple, but the chilies and spices used to relish the shrimp stir-fry is fabulous. Fyi, I am not quite a spicy-eater, but this one I give it a green light as it gave me a mummy's home-dish taste. <3>

2. Steamed Silky Tofu 蒸滑豆腐

Silky white tofu topped with minced meat and savoury gravy, garnished with spring onions
Perfect match to taste along with the bland smooth bean curd.
I must say there's a secret in the minced meat, simply not an ordinary steamed smooth tofu with minced meat  sauce.

3. Shark Meat Soup 鲨鱼汤

Usually you just eat the shark's fin soup. How about the shark meat soup?
Sharks are generally caught for their valuable fins instead of the meat,
but Mr Yap sees the shark meat as a precious meat to be well-simmered into a nourishing soup .
The soup itself is actually an antipasto salty broth comes with Japanese egg tofu, salted vegetables and tomatoes.
The tang aroma of the soup just kept me into it.

4. Shark Meat Stir-fry 炒鲨鱼

another savour of shark meat stir fry and soy-sauced Chinese cuisine.
For me, I prefer the soup based shark meat.

Now, we come to the highlights!!

5. Bak Kut Teh (pork rib soup) 肉骨茶

Bak Kut Teh is so popular among Chinese that it has different regional versions.
and this Hokkien version of bak kut teh is basically darker and saltier in its soup base.
I am a Teochew, so my version of bak kut teh is not really like that, but still I enjoyed eating the pork rib, pork intestines, pork belly and sipping on its soy-sauce-based soup.
We had even called for the broth refill~~

6. Yap Beng's Dry Bak Kut Teh 干肉骨茶

This is different from the classical bak kut teh, yet it's so popular in Klang town exclusively.
It's called "dry" because there's no broth inside but changed to a thicker soy-sauce gravy.
The pork rib / fatback is actually stewed with some complex condiments to get a tangier taste.
I could taste on some aromatic dried cuttlefish inside which was pretty matchy with the stewed pork.
Hah, the dish was finished the fastest among all and it gained everybody's favorite.

We were having some Chinese tea while having the brunch with bak kut teh feast to somehow helps to speed up the digestive process of fat. Good one~
Talking about the tea, you know how to control the bitterness of your tea? You know? You don't know?
We asked Mr Yap  (a descendant of the Yap's family original bak kut teh since 80's) about it and he demo on it. One more technique learned - “art of tea infusion” (沏茶).

Mr Yap (left) and Steven

it's a common sense~
Never fully filled your teapot with the tea leaves inside, but accordingly (agak-agak I mean) to the person who wanna drink it. After few minutes, pour the tea into another standby little teapot with no tea leaves infused inside. Then only poured into teacups. Now, you won't have the tea-leaves soaking inside so long until it gets so bitter. Go for another hot water filling after finished drinking.
Mission accomplished!

Menu available in the shop

Verdict: For me, it is economic and affordable. RM 10 per person would be enough to enjoy the greatest of  dry or soup bak kut teh.

Growing into another person...

At home, you tend to be dependent on parents;
Away-from-home, you tend to be dependent on friends.

Uh, ain't not trying to translate it from the the Chinese sayings of “在家靠父母,出外靠朋友”.
but was trying to say it's a tendency to be dependent instead of being independent when there's always somebody for you~

Granted, it's always good to have somebody to count on whenever you need one the most, but when there's no one for you to count on, how are you going to cope with the "I-am-at-the-loss-what-to-do-next" drama?

A story of three years ago - 27th of June 2009 :-
I remembered the day whereby my parents indeed let a van to fetch me all along from my hometown to my beloved uni. That time, I just couldn't imagine if I was asked to come all by myself without my parents, as I had  never well-prepared to be independent yet. *Shame?Lame?*
But then after everything was settled down, with no parents by my side, I have to face things all by myself. Dramatic change huh?
There. The learning process begins.

I have quite a high expectation on myself, yet I gotta admit that I was (or suppose used to be "I am") having minor DPD (Dependent Personality Disorder) sometimes...
However, living about 200 miles distant from the HSH is a powerful factor that could greatly and mentally alter you.

Time flies...
Sometimes, I just hate to be one of it as I prefer to have a company by my side when doing something, but gradually and eventually I would have learned (so much) and have grown up (enough) to take over things on my tod.

Courage. Initiative. The values that I need to extract from others, somewhere and use on me myself.

Note: being independent is different from being a loner...

Grill. Dip. Melt at Charcoal BBQ House 炭笑屋

After my first ever food review, my second's just happened to be at Charcoal BBQ House, a new and recently opened barbecue house based on Yakiniku (焼き肉) concept, or more known as Japanese barbecue. Again, I enjoyed the barbecue moment with some kick ass friends.

Actually I love to have BBQ's gathering party with a bundle of fun, but it's quite time-consuming to prepare good barbecue's raw ingredients. Probably it would take you a day to do one, and you might not be able to get a wide assortment of fresh ingredients too, agree?

So instead of messing up the day, trying on the BBQ house like Charcoal BBQ House would be just perfect as the founder, Mr Stephen and his co-founder, Mr Shawn would know exactly how to make barbecued food more worthwhile to be eaten outside. They fulfill your barbecue binge with wide range of raw food selection, from vegetables,  pork, mutton, beef, chicken to seafood!

Some premium food selection are available, waiting to be grilled over the hot charcoal ~~

"Must Try"

This is one of the top selling dishes demanded by customers! Highlands' fresh White Button Mushroom (白蘑菇) with some simple touch that gives salty and juicy mouth feel even after grilling. Uhmm, I like the salty aroma of grilled mushroom.

Another favorite dish selection by customers - the house's famous Tofu Puffs (豆腐卜) with slightly spicy marinade, accompanied with your own grilling technique to impart different texture to the tofu puffs.

Meat Selection

Beef Sirloin (西冷) marinated in custom-made Yakiniku sauce for barbecue. The slide is thin enough to absorb all the sauce's essence and melt in your mouth.

Special cuts of Lamb Shoulder (羔羊肩) marinated in custom-made Yakiniku sauce too. No gamy smell in the lamb and the cuts comprise some bones to provide little chewy sensation.

Good news for pork-eaters, pork selection is also available here.

Fine cut of Pork Belly (五花肉) with layers of lard that gives you subtle palatability after grilled over the fire.

Also, Shoulder Loin (中咀) with tender texture.
Both of the meat are not served with marinade, but you can put condiments on them while grilling to enhance the taste.

I told Mr Stephen "Kam Chin Yuk"(金钱肉)(gold coin meat) is my most favored meat among all. The seasoned meat tasted even sweeter and pleasant after being grilled over charcoal-fire.

Note to yourself: Better watch out your "coins" on the grill as they burn fast! Flip them at 10-secs intervals. LOL.

Besides meat, Charcoal BBQ House offers teriyaki chicken, eggs, seafood (squid and prawn) and vegetables (lettuce and corn) too.
Another "must-try": giant portion of two-flavors' fried ice-cream  which is served after the barbecue session as dessert.

Okay, we started our barbecue dinner with Mr Stephen's teaching lesson on how to control the fire and "be your own grill master".
We were served with green tea, Japanese rice to eat along with the grilled foods. And, our meal was delighted by the Yakiniku sauce, specially formulated dipping sauce by founders. I dipped almost every piece of my barbecued foods with the sauce before eating~~
Mr Stephen even shared his precious experience in doing research with co-founder, Mr Shaun on the charcoal, sauce, marinades and etc before get started in this BBQ business.

Whilst enjoying the BBQ, you could learn an interesting way to eat thinly-sliced meat, i.e., shabu-shabu. Seriously, I have never try on shabu-shabu.
All you have to do is to lift a sliced meat with your chopsticks, immerse it in the boiling vege-based soup, then dip it in egg yolk, and just eat it instantly. Erm, as simple as that for really different meat sensation~!
I should have a live demo's images on that already! >.<

Verdict: Love the way of eating barbecued foods with their special Yakiniku dipping sauce, and at the same time you could have shabu-shabu too. Good air-ventilation to give better barbecue atmosphere. Valuable set dinner for only RM11.90 is recommended for all (especially students from UPM Serdang)

Menu available here:

Pictures below show the appearance of the Charcoal BBQ House, its signboard is not ready yet, but I believe soon Charcoal BBQ House's gonna steal the limelight from foodies.
